To change the appearance of the door without updating the colour, consider updating the hardware. You can give it a new look by changing the handle, lock, and adding a door knocker and/or a kickplate. The house numbers can also be changed to something with an updated font. It pays to invest in high-quality hardware, since it will be in place for a number of years.
